One Phonecall Recently, there have been lots of unexpected changes in my life and I have had not much time to cope with them. Everything is so fast-paced and I really haven't had the time to sit down and think it through. Its like I'm trapped in a dream and I haven't really woken up just yet.

Just a week or two before, I had everything planned out. My whole life was under my control. I had a wonderful job, where my colleagues were wonderful people. Through that job, I managed to do things which I really enjoyed doing.

I had also planned to go overseas to study economics at the University of Western Australia, probably the school I wanted to go since a long time ago.

But one phone call simply changed everything. Changed my whole life. My future.

It was in the late morning, around 11am, when my handphone rang. Actually, my handphone was in the silent mode, so technically speaking, it vibrated, and woke me up.

I turned my body over and reached out for my handphone. My handphone is probably one of the many things I cannot do without, in my life. Anyway, I didn't recognised the number and silently cursed the unknown caller for interupting my beauty sleep.

Probably some stupid temp agency again, I thought.

I clicked the button anyway and answered it politely.

"Hi! Is this Adelyn?" Chirped the unknown female caller.

"Ya. Who's this?" I mumbled grumpily. I hate people who sound so cheerful so early in the morning when I'm still in dreamland.

"Hi, Adelyn!" She continued cheerfully. "I'm XXX (can't reveal her name) calling from NUS!"

That got me awake immediately. What's NUS calling me at 11am on a Thurday morning - 5 August 2004.

"Oh," she continued, with that terrifyingly chirpy high-pitched voice of hers, "We have a vacancy for you here at the Faculty of the Arts and Socal Science!"

This one phone call changed my entire life. Just this one phonecall, which got my dad excited and got me to quit my job and everything which I had planned for so long. I'm not controlling my life anymore. I feel that my life is controlling me, somewhere, somehow...

So after all that, I did my bidding, I got my modules. I've started my lectures and I'm having my tutorial balloting.
