PCK - the Musical
Hey... I'm back from watching Phua Chu Kang the Musical with my parents at the indoor stadium. My dad won tickets from participating in a radio discussion for it. Well, my dad would never have gone to watch it if the tickets weren't free. My dad is probably one of the biggest critics of Phua Chu Kang.
The tickets my dad got were $35 ones, which means we were at the balcony seats, at the back. It was so far from the stage. Aiyoh, can't see much, but I got the rough idea.
PCK definitely isn't the best musical I've ever seen in my life and I sure won't pay $100 to sit right in the front. After watching it, my parents were complaining that PCK isn't really prepared to give a musical even if they did spend $3 million in production. The concept is still the same, all PCK singlish. The main casts are also the same as the sitcom. The only difference is probably that they included lots of songs here and there to make it a musical. It was also very draggy, and some scenes were unnecessary. Some songs were extra long too. The show was over 2 hours. Some scenes were quite messy also, and they seemed to be in a rush which delivering their lines sometimes. My mum also complained that their singing weren't good, their voices weren't that powerful. Maybe they should have practised more and attended more singing lessons instead of rushing to the musical. Their dances weren't that good as well. At the end, my dad gave it a 5 out of 10. Haha.
Summary of PCK the Musical (WaRnInG: contains spoilers)
Chu Kang was worried that no one in his family seemed to remember his 40th birthday even after he dropped hints, but unknown to him, his family was already planning his party. So the sad Chu Kang went out to a coffee shop and met Chu Kok, whom appeared to be his long lost brother. Yep, Papa Phua supposedly had an affair with a Kampong Slut Audrey Chee and had a son who was then abandoned in a rubbish bin at age 3 months. Chu Kok took Chu Kang to see a fortune teller who delivered 3 predictions. One - Kang will find his long lost brother. Two - Kang will be hit by something big. Three - He will die the next day. The first two predictions proved accurate, so Kang became convinced that his end was near, so he got a lawyer and signed over all his property and money over to Chu Kok. Unknown to him, all this was a plot set up by con-tractor (notice the pun) cum enemy Frankie Foo. So Chu Kang ended up with nothing except his family. In the midst of celebrating, Frankie collapsed with a heart attack but was eventually saved by Chu Kang and Chu Beng. Out of gratitude and respect for Chu Kang, Frankie decided to return everything back.
The End.
